A St. Paul man has been charged with murder after his wife's body was found in a White Bear Lake garage Monday.

The Pioneer Press reports, 34-year-old Steven Roger Johnson called his friend and fellow prisoner Nathan Schram living in White Bear Lake and told him that his wife, 32-year-old Manya Jewel Johnson, was dead and that he placed her in Schram's garage.

Schram then notified police.

Police officers responded to Johnson's home in St. Paul where he, accompanied by his wife's coworker, said that Manya did not show up for work that day.

While officers talked with Johnson, they received a phone call from an agent with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension that said police located Manya's body at the garage site.

Johnson was immediately taken into custody.

Johnson later told police he and his wife had an argument on Sunday and Manya claimed she was going to leave him and take their 18-month-old son with her.

The criminal complaint states Johnson admitted to shooting his wife in the head, using a saw to dismember her body in the shower and placing her in several plastic bins. He also admitted he had been drinking.

Johnson has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held on $2 million bail. Ramsey County Attorney John Choi tells WCCO that it's clear Johnson took elaborate steps to cover up the crime, but Choi wasn't sure if he'll seek a first-degree murder indictment.

In 1996, Johnson was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and sentenced to 206 months.

He was released from prison in 2008 and was on supervised release that was set to expire in 2018, FOX9 reports.

According to the Star Tribune, Manya worked in marketing operations at Target Corp. A friend described her as witty, giving and loving.

KSTP talks with Johnson's neighbor who says the case is unimaginable.
