A woman was shot dead in Brooklyn Park by a man with whom seconds earlier she had been hugging.

James Alvin Hill, 31, has been charged with the 2nd-degree murder of the woman in a retail parking lot in the 5800 block of Brookdale Drive on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the charges, the woman had walked into a salon at the strip mall where she was met by Hill around 4:20 p.m.

Hill asked the woman "if she remembered him," and after she appeared to recognize him they hugged.

The woman was then asked to head outside "so he could show her something," with witnesses in the salon hearing a pop and seeing the woman collapse seconds later while they were outside.

The woman was found taken to North Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, where she died a short time later.

Surveillance video showed Hill and the victim walking over to a grey SUV, with Hill opening the front passenger door, at which point "the woman struggled with him."

Hill was seen pointing his arm at her, with the woman stumbling backwards. He then grabbed her purse and jumped in the SUV, which drove away.

Police tracked the license plate of the SUV to Deshawn Slaughter, 31, who is accused of driving the vehicle at the time and has been charged with aiding an offender.

They found the gun and the victim's purse and credit card in the SUV.
