A Minnesota man is accused of stabbing and decapitating a man who raped "his girl."

Joseph Thoresen, 36, of Deer River, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder in connection to the death of 20-year-old David Alexander Haiman, charges say.

Haiman's body was found in the woods in Deer River Sunday morning. His head was found about an hour later in the area where the decapitation occurred, the criminal complaint says. He had previously been reported missing.

Investigators discovered Haiman's remains after a stolen vehicle investigation, the Duluth News Tribune said.

According to the criminal complaint:

Thoresen's girlfriend told investigators she was upset that Haiman had raped her. Last week when Haiman came to the couple's apartment she confronted him, kicking and punching him.

Thoresen was also there and punched him, telling him he shouldn't have raped "my girl."

The three of them left in Haiman's car to "[score] some bud." They drove to Deer River and smoked marijuana with some other people, then drove to Ball Club and smoked meth, the girlfriend told investigators.

After that, they drove around in the woods before stopping due to "some car trouble." Thoresen and Haiman got out of the car and argued. The girlfriend heard a loud thud, and told investigators Thoresen stabbed Haiman multiple times, then took a large knife from Haiman's belt loop and cut off his head.

Then on Friday, Thoresen and another man were discovered driving in Haiman's vehicle. The other man told investigators Thoresen admitting to killing the owner of the vehicle "several days earlier," and he had hit him in the head with a baseball bat and stabbed him in the lungs, then cut off his head with a machete and dragged his body into the woods.

If convicted, Thoresen could face up to 40 years in prison for the second-degree murder charge.
