Charges: Man tried to kidnap girl from Target in Willmar

He allegedly tried to pull the girl into the men's bathroom.

A Willmar man has been charged with felony kidnapping and false imprisonment after he allegedly tried to take a 10-year-old girl at Target in Willmar.

Charges filed in Kandiyohi County say that Jesus Diaz, 74, tried to pull the 10-year-old girl into the men's bathroom at Target on Wednesday, July 25.

The girl he attempted to take told police that she was going into the women's restroom when she encountered Diaz, who was exiting the men's restroom. She said Diaz held out his hand, which she thought was meant for a handshake. He shook her hand and then tried pulling her into the men's room.

Fortunately, the girl was able to free her hand and run to the adult she was with.

A Target employee witnessed the incident and confirmed it to police.

Police were called to the scene and were able to locate Diaz in the parking lot.

The West Central Tribune reports that Diaz had a 2011 conviction in which he was charged with false imprisonment after attempting to lure three young girls into his vehicle.

Diaz is currently in custody at the Kandiyohi County Jail.
