Charges: Moorhead man punched, cut his roommate who touched his sex doll

The roommates got in a fight after the victim allegedly put a blanket on the man's sex doll.

A Moorhead man is accused of punching and cutting his roommate after he had covered up his sex doll with a blanket.

Matthew Brian Gilbert, 36, of Moorhead, is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, both felonies, and fifth-degree assault, a misdemeanor, in connection to the Sept. 1 incident.

According to the criminal complaint, Moorhead police at 9:19 p.m. on Sept. 1 responded to a report of an assault with a knife at an apartment building. When police arrived, they encountered multiple people standing outside the building, including one person who said he'd been cut by a knife by Gilbert, his roommate.

The victim had multiple lacerations to his hands and face, and was bleeding badly, charges note. He was eventually taken to the hospital for treatment.

The victim, who was intoxicated, said he had been in Gilbert's room and at some point covered his sex doll with a blanket, the complaint states. When Gilbert got home, he confronted the victim for having touched his sex doll.

The two of them argued until the victim went outside for a cigarette, charges say. When he attempted to go back inside, the door was locked. When he tried to unlock the door, Gilbert opened the door and a physical fight ensued.

Gilbert pinned the victim to the ground and began punching him in the face, court documents say. At some point, he pulled a knife out of his pocket and began slashing at the victim, causing the cuts to his face and hands.

A witness told police he heard loud screaming from the apartment building and saw Gilbert and the victim fighting in the parking lot. He said Gilbert was on top of the victim and was punching him in the face.

Gilbert told police the victim had been pounding on the door of the apartment so he went outside to confront him, charges say. He said he grabbed a knife to scare him, but then the fight began. He admitted he punched the victim while the knife was still in his hand.

Gilbert described the knife to the police and told them where it was in the apartment, the complaint states. Police retrieved a knife matching Gilbert's description.
