The man whose attempted groping sparked a crime alert in Long Lake last week is accused of stalking women who left a ballroom in Golden

Charges filed on Friday against George Jeffrey Carlyle, 68, of Chanhassen, accuse him of following three women after they left the Metropolitan Ballroom and Clubroom on Wayzata Boulevard, Golden Valley.

He had a type, according to the charges, with police saying he targeted "attractive, white, blonde-haired, middle-aged women."

The first of these incidents, in Long Lake on Wednesday, May 16, sparked a crime alert from Wayzata police. A woman said she was approached by a man in his 60s as she got out of her car after returning home from a fundraiser at the Metropolitan.

The man, later identified as Carlyle, asked her for directions before grabbing the bottom of her dress and started lifting it up, while saying: "You're wearing white panties!"

She screamed loudly and he left.

The next night, May 17, a woman who had helped coordinate an event at the Metropolitan said she was approached by a man shortly after she returned to her south Minneapolis home.

He also asked for directions, and kept "trying to position himself near her rear." He left as she went inside to find her husband.

The final incident happened this past Wednesday, by which time police had the ballroom parking lot under surveillance.

A suspect car matching the description by the first two victims was seen in the parking lot, and just before 9:40 p.m. Carlyle was seen starting to follow a woman who was leaving the Metropolitan.

Police followed him following her to Shorewood, where he was ultimately stopped by police a few blocks from the intended victim's home.

Carlyle has been charged with three counts of stalking with bias (as he targeted women based on their color), as well as one count of 5th degree criminal sexual conduct.

The Metropolitan is an event venue near the Good Day Cafe that is operated by D'Amico Catering.
