Child run over by vehicle at park in west-central Minnesota

The 23-month-old girl was airlifted to a hospital in the Twin Cities.

A young child was run over by a vehicle at a park in western Minnesota on Saturday. 

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened at Chippewa Park in Brandon, Minnesota, which is located north of Interstate 94 about halfway between St. Cloud and Fargo. 

The sheriff's office says a 911 call was made at 4:20 p.m. reporting a child being hit by the vehicle, and authorities later learned that the 23-month-old girl was struck by a slow-moving vehicle while she was walking across a parking lot with her siblings. 

The driver of the vehicle that struck the child was attempting to park at the time. 

People nearby were able to pull the child from underneath the vehicle before first responders arrived, and she was then airlifted to a children's hospital in the Twin Cities for care. 

The girl's condition is unknown and the incident remains under investigation.
