A child suffered a serious injury in a farm accident in Wadena County Tuesday afternoon.

The Wadena County Sheriff's Office says it received a call about a child caught in farm equipment in section 30 of Wing River Township at around 4:30 p.m.

As police responded, the caller said they'd managed to get the child free and would be taking them to a hospital in their own vehicle.

Police arrived at the scene to learn the child had become stuck in a PTO shaft while mixing feed.

The child had to be airlifted to North Memorial Hospital with injuries described as serious, but not life-threatening.

There have been a number of recent farm accidents involving children in Minnesota, including two fatal ones in the past six months.
