Many traveling to and from evening Christmas Eve festivities experienced slick roads as a holiday storm dropped a few inches of snow in the Twin Cities.

According to the National Weather Service, 2.8 inches fell at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport as of midnight.

South of the Twin Cities saw higher totals. WCCO's Matt Brickman says those in Owatonna and Mankato woke up to about 4 inches of fresh snow on the ground.

NWS expects snow to continue Christmas morning, adding an inch or less to the southern half of the state.

Mother Nature appears to be in gift-giving business -- Christmas Day should be much warmer, providing some relief after the coldest temperatures of the season were recorded Christmas Eve morning.

The Star Tribune reports highs will be in the 20s Wednesday and could climb to 32 degrees by Saturday.

Unfortunately, warmer temperatures won't stick around for long. NWS officials tell the newspaper that another "artic hammer" is in store beginning Sunday when temperatures are expected to dip back down to -13 degrees.
