Minneapolis business leaders unveil big new vision for downtown
The Star Tribune takes a look at the what downtown advocates call "Downtown 2025." Among other goals, the plan calls for doubling the number of downtown residents by leveling the Metrodome and building a residential neighborhood on the site.
Those following the Vikings stadium debate might notice that plan conflicts with Mayor R.T. Rybak's own vision. He's working to persuade the team to build a new stadium where the Dome now sits. Rybak says that would be the most affordable option, but downtown businesses want the stadium closer to Target Field. The Associated Press has more.
Downtown 2025 also aims to create a "stadium district," revitalize Nicollet Mall and end homelessness, among other goals. But a big vision comes with a hefty price tag, of course: $2 billion.
