A New York blogger is calling out local businesses for continuing to advertise in Minneapolis City Pages despite its affiliation with Backpage.com, a controversial adult section of the classified ads that is tied to child sex trafficking.

A New York blogger is criticizing local businesses that advertise in Minneapolis City Pages because of the publication's affiliation with Backpage.com, a controversial adult section of the classified ads tied to child sex trafficking cases in Minneapolis.

The VillageVoicePimp.com praises the Hennepin County Bar Association for discontinuing their ads in City Pages and asks Minnesotans to "gently elbow" current advertisers to do the same.

The Star Tribune says businesses like First Avenue rely on City Pages as their primary mode of print advertising. First Avenue general manager tells the newspaper that the issue is worth looking into.

The St. Paul City Council passed a resolution calling on Village Voice Media, owners of the classified ad site Backpage.com, to discontinue the adult section of their online classifieds.

Minneapolis woman faces sex trafficking charges after missing teens found

Meranda Warborg, 32, from Minneapolis is being charged with two felony counts of sex trafficking and two felony counts of solicitation and promotion of prostitution, after two missing teen girls from Wisconsin were allegedly discovered with her in a Twin Cities apartment. A criminal complaint said the teens, ages 15 and 17, were featured in a Backpage.com advertisement posing in suggestive positions.

Facebook turns to Target to prove its ads are effective

A study from Internet research firm comScore suggests advertising on the social-networking platform may help boost sales. The study found people who are friends or fans of Target on Facebook were 21 percent more likely to shop at the Minneapolis-based discount retailer than those not exposed to the company's messages.
