A college academic adviser is the choice of Democrats in what will be a special election Feb. 12 to fill the state House seat of former DFL Rep. Terry Morrow, the Mankato Free Press reports.

Minnesota State University's Clark Johnson, of North Mankato, beat out three other contenders as expected.

Clark will face former state representative Republican Allen Quist and Independence Party candidate Tim Gieseke in a battle for the District 19A seat.

Clark had the party endorsement, and his three competitors – farmer Karl Johnson, St. Peter Mayor Tim Strand and North Mankato educator Robin Courrier – all had agreed to suspend their campaigns after Clark Johnson was endorsed.

Morrow, of St. Peter, a Gustavus Adolphus College professor, resigned his seat after the election to take a job in Chicago.
