Cloquet man suffers serious head injury after UTV lands on him
A Cloquet man suffered a serious head injury after crashing the UTV he was driving Sunday afternoon.
The incident happened in the area of Hwy. 53 and Swan Lake Road in New Independence Township at 2:30 p.m., with police called to a report of an overturned UTV.
The victim, a 56-year-old man, was found 1.5 miles east if the Independent rest area on Hwy. 53.
According to the St. Louis County Sheriffs Office: "It appeared the male was executing a u-turn when his UTV overturned, causing him to be ejected and the UTV landed on him.
"The victim was not seatbelted in and was not wearing a helmet."
He suffered a serious head injury as a result of the crash, and was taken to Essentia St. Mary's in Duluth.
