Upmarket Mexican eatery Masa in downtown Minneapolis will close next month, its owners have announced.

The restaurant, which has been a feature on Nicollet Mall over the past decade, will shut its doors on Oct. 24, according to a statement from owners D'Amico & Partners given to the Minneapolis Eater.

The Business Journal describes it as the "latest retreat" from downtown Minneapolis by the Twin Cities restaurant company, noting that in the past several years it has closed the D'Amico Kitchen at the Le Meridien Chambers Hotel, as well as its "onetime flagship" eatery D'Amico Cucina.

The company still retains a presence in central Minneapolis, operating the highly-rated Lurcat in Loring Park and Gather at the Walker Arts Center, as well as having Campiello in Eden Prairie.

It also has the D'Amico & Sons Italian chain, with locations dotted around the metro area.

The decision to close Masa has started filtering through to some of its diners, who contacted the restaurant on its Facebook page, asking whether there were any plans to open another location.

Unfortunately, they were advised they could continue to enjoy Masa – at its other location in Naples, Florida.

The D'Amico group does appear keen on pushing its D'Amico & Sons brand further. Last month it was announced outlets will be place in a handful of Target stores as part of a pilot project by the retail giant to revolutionize its eating options.
