The U.S. House on Tuesday unanimously approved a bill to name a Cold Spring, Minnesota, post office for police officer Tom Decker, who was killed in the line of duty in 2012. Senate approval is expected soon.

"It's overwhelming," the officer's brother Eddie Decker told USA Today of the tribute.

The 31-year-old Decker, a father of four, was fatally shot in November 2012 when he responded to a call about a man who was believed to be suicidal.

“Tommy Decker died while serving the community that raised him and loved him so dearly. Renaming his hometown post office the ‘Officer Tommy Decker Memorial Post Office’ is a fitting tribute to a life well lived and a man greatly missed. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy and example of courage and compassion lives on,” Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minnesota, said. She introduced the bill to rename the post office.

No one has been charged in the killing. Investigators had identified Eric Joseph Thomes, 31, as a person of interest in Decker’s death after police questioned him a number of times. When investigators returned to question him on Jan 2, 2013, Thomes ran to an outbuilding, where officers found Thomes had hanged himself.

A report from the BCA said Thomes would have been arrested had he not killed himself.

"I don't think we'll ever get over it," Cold Spring Mayor Doug Schmitz, who welcomed the post office renaming, told USA Today. "We're healing, and I think the healing process is going to be forever healing."

A stretch of Highway 23 in Stearns County was also named for Decker.
