Complaint against Secretary of State dismissed
A complaint filed by two Republican legislators against Secretary of State Mark Ritchie has been dismissed. The Star Tribune reports that administrative law judge Bruce Johnson ruled in Ritchie's favor on the complaint, which accused the DFL Secretary of State of playing politics to discourage passage of the Photo Identification Amendment.
Filed by Sens. Scott Newman, R-Hutchinson, and Mike Parry, R-Waseca, the complaint said Ritchie made exaggerated claims about the costs and effects of the Constitutional amendment that appears on Tuesday's ballot.
The judge also ruled there was no evidence Ritchie compelled his staff to engage in political activity, as the senators had claimed.
According to Minnesota Public Radio, Parry and Newman are meeting with their lawyer to decide what to do next. They have two days to appeal the administrative law judge's decision.
