Controversial sign promoting North Dakota moves from Moorhead to Fergus Falls

Forum Communications reports that the controversial billboard that went up outside Moorhead claiming North Dakota’s superior business climate is gone. The in-your-face sign along Interstate 94 read: “North Dakota: Open for Business.” It was part of a Greater North Dakota Chamber campaign touting the business growth and development potential on the North Dakota side of the border.

Moorhead Councilman Mark Hintermeyer and Craig Whitney, president and CEO of the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo Chamber, both asked that the sign be taken down.

The  Star Tribune reports that the bright yellow billboard, which stood in Moorhead since mid-May, has since been taken to a spot near Fergus Falls.

The Fargo-Moorhead newspaper reports that, sign or no sign, North Dakota border counties outpaced their Minnesota counterparts in job growth.

Cass County, where Fargo is located, saw a nearly 28 percent increase in jobs in the past decade. Moorhead's Clay County grew by 7 percent in the same span.
