Coon Rapids man dies in snowmobile crash in northern Minnesota

The victim of a fatal snowmobile crash in northern Minnesota has been identified as a Coon Rapids man. 

Daniel J. Cottew, 51, was riding snowmobile on the Arrowhead State Trail approximately 10 miles southwest of Tower when he crashed around 4:35 p.m. Thursday. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says he was traveling north on the trail when he veered off course and struck a tree. 

First responders attempted life-saving measures but Cottew was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Arrowhead State Trail is 135 miles long and begins 10 miles southwest of Tower and runs primarily north/northwest to approximately 10 miles southwest of International Falls.
