City crews in Coon Rapids responded to a water main break (video below) that sent a thick water plume spraying from below the street 8 feet into the air Tuesday night, WCCO reported.

The break in the 100 block of 122nd Avenue NW left several homes without water overnight after the city shut water service off in the area at about 7:30 p.m, WCCO reported.

Fox 9 has an image of the ice and earth that was left in the street, as well as a photo of the huge hole left in the street. (Fox 9 said the spray went as high as 15 feet.)

It was the second water main break Coon Rapids crews responded to on Tuesday.

Cold weather can be a factor in water main breaks, KARE 11 notes, which also reports that another break occurred Wednesday just after 5:30 a.m. in Fridley, in a resident's yard near a fire hydrant.
