Cops help Santa make an early delivery to kids in St. Paul hospital

Santa Claus and his helpers made an early stop in St. Paul this week to visit sick and injured kids. But the jolly old man didn't arrive on his sleigh – perhaps there wasn't enough snow. He pulled up to Children's Hospital in St. Paul on a motorcycle, with the missus in a sidecar.

" target="_blank">According to Facebook posts, the St. Paul Police helped out Mr. and Mrs. Claus, escorting Santa to the hospital and helping to deliver gifts.

This event is part of a program put on by the department called Cops and Kids, according to the St. Paul Police Foundation. They say their mission is to make kids who are hospitalized during the holidays smile.

So each year, Santa meets up with the police, revs his motorcycle's engine and spends the day in hospitals. The Star Tribune says it's been going on for 15 years.

The foundation says they also give hospitals movies, games and video and audio equipment.

According to the Star Tribune, patients got to meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus, spend time with the cops and elves, and pet the police horses.

It also looks like Santa challenged some patients in a game of air hockey, based on photos posted on Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota's Facebook page.

Check out the video of Santa and his helpers in action:
