Couple celebrates 'Mayan Apocalypse' with outdoor wedding in Mankato

A Mankato couple decided to make their wedding a memorable one Friday by timing their nuptials with the purported Mayan Apocalypse -- and holding the ceremony outside, the Mankato Free Press reports.

Katlyn McKenzie and Robert Grover said they purposefully timed their wedding date to correspond with the end-of-the-world hype. McKenzie, in fact, became familiar with the Mayan culture while studying in Central America.

As for the outdoor wedding part, the Minnesota State University students had their bundled guests assemble outside of the Earley Performing Arts Center, where the temperature outside was 12 degrees.

According to the Free Press, guests were kept warm by propane heaters, and the bridesmaids wore longjohns under their dresses.
