The couple found dead in Long Prairie, Minnesota, have been identified as Barry and Carol Bennett.
The pair were found at their home Wednesday after a welfare check following concerns raised by a friend, who hadn't heard from them since Tuesday.
Police are looking for a 22-year-old man, Dylan Bennett, in connection with their deaths.
While they haven't confirmed Dylan Bennett's relationship to the couple, they did confirm he lived with them.
Dylan Bennett is believed to be driving a blue 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe with the license plate number BCK 487.
Barry Bennett had an 11-year career in the NFL, where he played as a defensive lineman for the New Orleans Saints from 1978 to 1981, the New York Jets from 1982 to 1988, and one season with the Minnesota Vikings in 1989, for whom he played just one game.
He also played football at Concordia College.
Police say there is no wider risk to the general public.
