Craft beer taproom shuts down less than 6 months after opening

A craft beer taproom in northeast Minneapolis closed on Tuesday and its owner is looking for a buyer to take over.

The Community Keg House made the announcement on its website and Facebook page, though it didn't give a reason for the closing down just half a year after opening on Jan. 15.

"We have loved building Community and all the people who have worked and occupied this space," it said.

"It saddens us to close the Keg House greatly. We live and work in Northeast. We love Northeast. It meant a great deal to see so many support our efforts."

The start-up bar concept brought craft beers from all over Minnesota together under one roof, with patrons able to sample before buying, and then pour their own pint.

The bar could be found in the old Grain Belt kegging plant on 13th Ave. NE, and prior to opening it was vaunted as a "mega-taproom" showcasing only Minnesota-made craft beer.

WCCO reported it had 16 different taps in its pour room, which was attended to by "tap tenders."

Owner Nate Field told the TV station: "People want local, this is what people like. They’re coming to northeast or they’re going to other areas in the city, so I just thought it was more interesting to be a kind of one-stop shop for Minnesota craft beer."
