A crash that closed northbound Highway 169 in Elk River on Friday morning was fatal, according to an update from the Minnesota State Patrol.

The crash report says the accident happened around 8:40 a.m. on northbound Hwy. 169 at Hwy. 10, when the driver of a 2019 Dodge Caravan failed to stop at a red light on northbound 169 and broadsided a semi that was eastbound on Hwy. 10 and turning onto southbound Hwy. 101.

The semi driver, a 50-year-old Minneapolis man, was not injured. But the driver of the Caravan, 59-year-old Kathleen A. Lehman, of Elk River, died in the crash.

The crash shut down northbound Hwy. 169 for multiple hours.

Road conditions were wet at the time of the incident, according to the State Patrol. The crash happened around the time that a burst of snow moved through the Twin Cities metro area.
