Southwest High School in Minneapolis will be open Thursday, a day after officials closed the school following a "credible threat" to the community.

School officials said Wednesday Minneapolis Public Schools received a bomb threat specific to Southwest High School Tuesday evening, and out of the safety of students and staff decided to cancel school.

Minneapolis police conducted a walk-through at the school Wednesday morning and found no "unsafe materials," school officials said. No further details are available due to the ongoing investigation.

“We know today’s closure may have posed an inconvenience to some families, however we make decisions with the safety and security of our students and families in mind," Stan Alleyne, chief communications officer for MPS, said in a news release.

An automated message was sent to families Tuesday night alerting them the school will be closed and all school-related events and activities were canceled. The school encouraged students to participate in classroom discussions and do coursework online as much as possible Wednesday.

All other Minneapolis Public Schools were open Wednesday, the district's website notes.

The school is cooperating with police to make sure the individuals responsible are held accountable for their actions.
