About 1,400 hogs and 600 piglets died in a large barn fire at a Renville County farm Wednesday afternoon, according to FOX 9.
Firefighters from at least five towns were called in to battle the blaze, which began about 12:30 p.m. at the farm about four miles west of Hector, Minn.
The barn is divided into several sections and parts of it were engulfed in flames, while explosions were audible at the scene, KARE 11 reported.
Employees were evacuated safely from the building, and no one was injured, according to KARE 11.
My KLGR reports that the hog farm has no water system, so water tankers had to race back and forth from nearby towns to deliver tens of thousands of gallons of water to the scene.
FOX 9 says an excavator was brought in to tear down the building so the remnants of the fire could be put out, according to the Renville County sheriff's office.
Onlooker Steve Nelson captured the dramatic scenes, and shot this video.
