Crews searching for 21-year-old Twin Cities man in N. Minnesota lake; 1 rescued

The two were canoeing when their boat began to take on water, so they swam toward land.

The St. Louis County Rescue Squad continues to search for a 21-year-old Roseville man who is missing after canoeing with a friend on a lake in northern Minnesota.

The rescue squad and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to Sand Lake, in the Britt area north of Virginia, at around 4 p.m. Thursday on a report of a water emergency.

Philip Poulose and a friend were canoeing on the lake at around 11:30 a.m. in what the sheriff's office described as "very windy weather." That's when the waves started to flood their canoe, so Poulose told his friend he was going to swim for the shoreline; his friend swam to a small island.

The friend was eventually rescued from the island, but the rescue squad continues to search the island and lake for Philip.

Neither person had a life jacket with them.
