Police in Wadena County are hunting an inmate who escaped custody en route to a court hearing.

Ryan Petro, 34, escaped "during transition to a court appearance" at around 2:45 p.m. Monday, according to the Wadena County Sheriff's Office.

He's been in custody for a month, having been arrested for charges including misdemeanor obstruction, disorderly conduct, damage to property, and a felony charge of breaking the conditions of his release for 1st-degree burglary.

Petro was dressed in an orange shirt and was handcuffed when he escaped, and was last seen in the area of Colfax Ave SE in Wadena.

"Petro is considered dangerous," the sheriff's office said, and anyone who sees him should call 911.

"Law Enforcement is still actively searching for Petro and is following up on all reported information and sightings," an update issued late Monday evening read.

"An area on the north edge of Wadena was heavily searched by the Wadena County K-9 Unit, Todd County Drone, State Patrol Helicopter, Ottertail County Drone and numerous law enforcement personnel due to a tip that Petro was observed in that area."
