A deputy from the Grand Forks County Sheriff's Department in North Dakota narrowly avoided serious injury, or worse, when a truck slammed into the back of a vehicle he'd pulled over for a traffic stop.

It happened Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 7:16 p.m. when the deputy was making a routine stop and was speaking to the driver.

Dash camera footage from his patrol vehicle shows the frightening moment of impact.

Not only did the deputy avoid getting hit by the out-of-control truck, he also avoided being struck by debris launched towards him when the truck hit the side of his squad vehicle.

It's difficult to say with certainty what is sent flying through the air, but at least one object appears to be a passenger side mirror.

According to WDAY, the driver of the truck was an 81-year-old man who was suffering from a medical episode.
