Alayna Albrecht-Payton suffered a broken jaw and a cut lip during the April 11 incident in Brooklyn Center that resulted in a police officer fatally shooting her boyfriend, 20-year-old Daunte Wright.
Albrecht-Payton's mother, Danielle Albrecht, says her daughter was "brutally attacked" by police, though the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says officers were not involved in a physical confrontation with Albrecht-Payton.
"Based on the BCA’s preliminary investigation, there is no evidence of a physical altercation between any officer and the female passenger in the vehicle," a spokesperson from the BCA told Bring Me The News.
How did she suffer the broken jaw? Brooklyn Center Police Department, in its news release after the April 11 incident, claimed the female passenger was injured when Wright drove away after being shot, then crashed into another vehicle.
In a GoFundMe that was launched to help pay for Albrecht-Payton's medical bills, Albrecht says officers "brutally attacked" her daughter, a claim that again has yet to be confirmed.
"Alayna did NOTHING to deserve this! This kind of treatment is sick its disgusting its inhumane! Protect and Serve? Isnt that what the police are supposed to do? Sadly they don't and sadly more lives continue to be lost! More innocent scarred for life! Alayna watched as her boyfriend was murdered in front of her by police and then she herself was brutally attacked! The trauma my daughter has suffered could have been avoided! Enough is enough! Too many mothers have lost their children because of the racist cops in our country! There must be JUSTICE!"
According to WCCO-TV, attorney Robert Bennett is representing Albrecht-Payton. He confirmed to WCCO that her jaw is "wired shut as a result of her injuries," in addition to "suffering from the emotional trauma of witnessing her boyfriend's violent death."
Bennett has not responded to Bring Me The News' inquiry for more information about how Albrecht-Payton suffered the broken jaw.
Brooklyn Center Police Department did not respond to Bring Me The News' inquiry about the allegations.
A short clip of police bodycam footage from the incident was released showing the moment Wright was shot, and does show an officer on the passenger side of the vehicle, where Albrecht-Payton was sat, but doesn't show if there was any physical contact between the officer and the passenger.
The GoFundMe for Albrecht-Payton has raised just over $1,800. The GoFundMe for Wright's family has raised $992,000, as of this writing.
