Dayton aims for minimum wage of $9 or $9.50
Gov. Mark Dayton says he'd be comfortable with hiking the state's minimum wage rate to $9 or $9.50, the Associated Press says, which falls between rates proposed by the Minnesota House and Senate.
The current minimum wage in the state is $6.15, but most workers at that level qualify for the federal minimum wage of $7.25.
One measure approved by a House panel would hike the rate paid by large employers in three phases until it hits $10.55 in August 2015. Smaller employers would have to pay $9.
A Minnesota Senate bill would require a much smaller increase to $7.50.
In Washington D.C., Democrats in Congress proposed legislation Tuesday to boost the federal minimum wage to more than $10, but the bill faces likely insurmountable opposition from the Republican-controlled House.
