A hip muscle tear prevented Gov. Mark Dayton from appearing at a business ribbon cutting event Wednesday and will likely limit his public schedule as he undergoes physical therapy, the Associated Press reports.

Dayton, 66, injured the muscle over the weekend and was checked out at the Mayo Clinic. It's not clear how he was injured.

The Associated Press says the governor's public schedule will be "off and on" depending on his discomfort level.

Last December, Dayton underwent back surgery at Mayo.
