Dayton chasing economic opportunity in undisclosed place

Gov. Mark Dayton is traveling out of the state Wednesday for a meeting "regarding a possible economic development opportunity for Minnesota,” MPR reports. But Dayton's office won't say where.

Dayton’s daily public schedule says that the governor is traveling with Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development Commissioner Katie Clark Sieben, MPR reports.

MPR speculates that Dayton could be in Illinois, home of the bioscience and medical products company Baxter International Inc. Dayton a few months ago signed legislation that would allow millions in taxpayer subsidies to Baxter to expand in Brooklyn Park, MPR notes. The Associated Press earlier this year investigated how the deal was quietly put together out of the public spotlight.

Or Dayton could be chasing another company somewhere else. Lawmakers this year approved legislation that creates new tax incentives designed to lure other larger companies to Minnesota.

Dayton has repeatedly vowed to go "anywhere in the world where there are jobs to be gained for Minnesota."
