Dayton pushes for early release of MNsure rates

Gov. Mark Dayton is pushing to get next year's prices for Minnesota's health insurance exchange publicized by Oct. 1, ahead of the November election, reports say.

Dayton said releasing rates earlier will give Minnesotans more time to choose a plan.

Insurance rates must be published by mid-November, but rates could be published by Oct. 1 if all participating health plans agree – they did so last year, and rates were released almost a month before open enrollment, MinnPost says.

Dayton's push to release the rates early comes as opponents state's health exchange, MNsure, recently criticized the administration for not committing to release rates before the election, the Associated Press reports.

Republicans have long criticized the state's health exchange, MNsure, and have vowed to make major changes to the program if elected this fall.

Franken declines debate invite

Sen. Al Franken denied an invitation from MPR News to debate his Republican and Independent Party opponents at the Minnesota State Fair in August, MPR reports.

The station says state fair debates have been a tradition for 20 years.

MPR says a spokeswoman for Franken didn't give a reason for declining the invitation, adding the campaign hasn't ruled out participating in the final debate, which will be hosted by MPR at the Fitzgerald Theater Nov. 2.
