One man is dead after an officer-involved shooting at an Arby’s restaurant in Plymouth Thursday night. KSTP reports that police responded to a disturbance at the fast food restaurant at the intersection of Highway 55 and Revere Lane North.

Police have not elaborated on details, but Plymouth Police Chief Michael Goldstein told the station that an officer "engaged" with a man who was "causing some problems." The responding officer fired at the man, killing him, Goldstein said.

Names of the officer who fired and man shot have not been released, but the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) confirmed Friday morning it had launched an investigation.

"The officer entered the restaurant and approached the individual identified as the subject of the 9-1-1 call," the BCA said in a news release. "After a short time a scuffle ensued during which the officer attempted to gain control of the individual. At some point, the officer fired their weapon, fatally striking the individual."

The officer involved had "minor injuries" after the "scuffle," the BCA said. No customers or employees inside the restaurant at the time of the incident were injured.

The parents of one of the Arby’s employees who was working at the time of the shooting told the Star Tribune that their son called home to tell them about the incident, saying that someone had died.

Businesses in the area immediately surrounding the fast-food restaurant were evacuated for a short time.

The officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation begins.
