A deadly weekend on Minnesota roads included fatal crashes in Shakopee and in Chisago County, in addition to two other crashes that left three people dead in greater Minnesota.

According to Shakopee Police Department, a driver crashed into a pole and was killed just after 2:30 p.m. Sunday on Hwy. 101 near Stagecoach Drive.

Police say witnesses pulled the 45-year-old Shakopee woman from the vehicle shortly before the car burst into flames. One of the bystanders who helped told the Star Tribune that he suffered minor burns while assisting.

Sadly, the woman did not survive the crash.

Her identity has yet to be released and an investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing.

Chisago County fatal crash

In a separate incident, a man was pronounced dead at the scene after a single-vehicle crash one mile north of Harris Minnesota, around 5:10 a.m. Saturday.

The Chisago County Sheriff's Office reports that a small pickup was going south on Forest Blvd. when it left the roadway, went into the ditch and rolled multiple times.

The driver's name has not been released and the crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office and the Minnesota State Patrol.

The most recent data from the Minnesota Department of Traffic Safety says there have been 170 deaths on Minnesota roads this year, down from 181 at the same time in 2018.
