Eau deer, Eau Claire: Deer crash windows at 2 buildings

It's window-crashing season for deer.

A deer – or perhaps two different deer – smashed through two building windows in separate incidents in Eau Claire over the weekend.

Resident Jeanette Lane said she was watching TV on her couch and enjoying a chicken dinner on Sunday when a deer jumped through her window, the Eau Claire Leader Telegram reports. She fled outside while the deer ran around inside, leaving a blood trail on a 10-minute tour of the house before it escaped out the window it had entered, the newspaper reported.

A short time earlier, a small buck crashed through a window at a Clarion Hotel in Eau Claire and ran around a conference room before escaping, WEAU-TV reported.

It's not unheard of for disoriented deer to crash through windows. A few months ago, a deer crashed through a Moorhead church window, and preschoolers were evacuated. No one was hurt, although the deer was tranquilized and ultimately did not survive.

A number of panicked deer crashed into windows and doors at a Moorhead shopping mall last year.

Last fall, a deer crashed through a campus building window at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, leaving a trail of blood and causing an estimated $5,500 in damage.

Deer are more likely to crash through windows – and be involved in collisions with cars – during the fall mating season, one wildlife expert told the Daily Messenger in New York state. The organization's newsroom office was crashed by a deer in 2011.
