A buck named Bow Tie was shot and killed Sunday – in the Milwaukee County park system, where it's illegal to hunt deer, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Bow Tie (as you may have guessed by the fact that he has a name) was a well-known animal, with a patch of white fur on his neck.

FOX 6 compared his death to Cecil the lion's slaying, and Lisa Carlson told the station, "Everyone in the neighborhood is just very sad because we've all photographed him in our yards."

The Journal Sentinel spoke with a photographer who'd seen Bow Tie around for the past eight years.

The buck though was killed in the Wauwatosa area by a hunter with a crossbow, who was later turned in by another man in the park at the time. FOX 6 reports the hunter has since been fined and is losing his license for a year.

Milwaukee County municipal code says no person "shall carry, fire or discharge any gun, pistol or firearm ... within any park or parkway without a written permit" from parks officials.
