Delta is adding more flights from Rochester to MSP – and dropping Detroit

Delta Airlines is changing two of its well-known flight options: One is ending, and the other is set to expand.

On April 9, the airline will pull the plug on daily nonstop flights from Rochester International Airport (RST) to Detroit (DTW).

In an email to BringMeTheNews, Delta confirmed the change, saying their decision is to "ensure we're matching capacity with demand."

According to KTTC, Delta told new Rochester Airport Director John Reed the change is partly due to a pilot shortage and that the airline needs to reallocate its resources. The flights from Rochester to Detroit started just seven months ago.

At that time, a Mayo Clinic spokesperson told MPR the Rochester-Detroit connection was beneficial for traveling, sick patients and would also help the clinic recruit physicians.

The airport is somewhat of a partnership between Rochester and Mayo. The city owns the building while the clinic manages it, the airport's website explains.

As the daily Detroit flights come to an end, Delta will be adding a third daily flight from RST to Minneapolis- St. Paul International Airport (MSP).

Reed told the Star Tribune he doesn't yet know the itineraries for the additional Rochester-MSP service.
