The airline says about 150 jobs will be affected. The Star Tribune reports the move is meant to save the company money. In a memo to workers, Delta said it must control costs to maintain a competitive advantage.

Delta loan repayment will end job commitments in Minnesota

Delta plans to pay off what's left on a Metropolitan Airports Commission loan it inherited from Northwest Airlines. Once the loan is repaid, Delta will no longer be bound by a commitment to keep at least 10,000 jobs in Minnesota. The airline currently has 12,000 employees here.

Delta Air Lines is relocating Edina-based MLT Vacations from Minnesota to its Atlanta headquarters over the next several months, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The company says roughly 160 employees in the Twin Cities will be offered the option to transfer. Delta is the dominant carrier in the Twin Cities after in acquired Northwest Airlines in 2008.

Comcast to add 150 local jobs

The cable company is adding 150 jobs in St. Paul, which is the second big hiring effort so far this year. In April, Comcast announced plans to hire 450 people for its Minnetonka facility. A company executive tells Twin Cities Business that many of those jobs are still open.

Minneapolis subsidiary of Delta to close

Minneapolis-based Regional Elite Airline Services, a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, will close Nov. 13. The company says its work has been awarded to another contractor at the airport. About 4,000 employees are affected, many in the Twin Cities will take jobs with Delta Ground Services.

Job openings surge in Minnesota

Job vacancies were up nearly 50 percent in the fourth quarter of 2011, compared with the same period a year earlier. Employers reported nearly 50,000 job openings, according to the latest figures from the Department of Employment and Economic Development.
