Delta has become the latest in a growing number of companies to have cut ties with the National Rifle Association in the wake of the Florida shooting.

In a statement it tweeted on Saturday, Delta said it will be ending its contract giving discounted rates to the NRA's 5 million members.

Delta has a significant presence in Minnesota, employing 8,000 workers from its hub at MSP Airport.

It follows similar steps taken by companies including car rental firms Hertz and Budget, insurance firm MetLife, and security company Symantec.

The spotlight is on the NRA following the Parkland school shooting and subsequent public appearances from spokesperson Dana Loesch and executive VP Wayne LaPierre.

Liberal media site ThinkProgress highlighted the companies that have commercial tie-ins with the NRA, and another Minnesota company – Starkey Hearing Technologies – is among them.

The Starkey company has not yet made any public statement on its relationship with the NRA since the Florida shooting.

ThinkProgress notes that NRA members have access to discounted hearing aids and free consultations.
