Ever been so pooped from a long day of shopping at Southdale you wished you could go straight home?

If developer plans come to fruition, you might already be home.

The Star Tribune reports that the owner of the nation’s first enclosed mall, Simon Property Group, has partnered with the Bloomiongton-based developer Stuart Co. to build One Southdale Place, a 232-unit upscale apartment project there.

In the parking lot. The lot is one of Edina's most prominent commerical swaths of land, but it has never been developed, reports the Strib.

“We feel that this site deserves an upper end, Class A project,” Ryan Dunlay, vice president of development and acquisitions for StuartCo, said on the company's web site more than a year ago. “The demand is there, and we’re going to do something that the site deserves.”

In December, the Edina city council approved the project, Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal reported.

The 18-story tower in the $100 million project features 11 stories of condos, says the Star Tribune, which are reportedly in high demand.
