Authorities are investigating an early morning officer-involved shooting in Coon Rapids.

It happened around 1:39 a.m., when a Coon Rapids police officer was involved in a traffic stop along Foley Boulevard and 98th Lane NW, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

During the stop, a man ran from police fired shots at officers, according to the sheriff's office.

Multiple agencies, including the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, tracked down the suspect and located him nearby. They determined he "posed an immediate threat to law enforcement," the office said. Officers responded by shooting at the suspect.

He was struck and died at the scene.

Details beyond that were not made available, but the Anoka County Sheriff's Office says it will provide more information at an 8 a.m. news conference.

As is standard in officer-involved shootings throughout the state, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
