Disney+ debuting Frozen 2 early for 'some fun and joy' during pandemic

It will start streaming Sunday, 3 months ahead of schedule.

With American families facing self-imposed house arrest in the face of coronavirus, Disney has made an announcement that could make things a little easier for them.

The entertainment giant will debut "Frozen 2" on its Disney+ streaming service Sunday, "surprising families with some fun and joy during this challenging period," a press release says.

As the release notes, the movie's Sunday debut is a full three months earlier than the company had originally planned.

Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek issued the following statement:

“‘Frozen 2’ has captivated audiences around the world through its powerful themes of perseverance and the importance of family, messages that are incredibly relevant during this time, and we are pleased to be able to share this heartwarming story early with our Disney+ subscribers to enjoy at home on any device."

If you already have Disney+, all you'll have to do is fire up your app at home tomorrow; if not, the service is offering a free seven-day trial. After the free trial, it's $6.99 a month.

The announcement came the same day President Donald Trump declared a national emergency to help combat the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the CDC, there are 1,629 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with 41 deaths reported.

Minnesota confirmed its 14th case on Friday.
