New DNR specialist tries to limit damage caused by deer

The first deer depredation specialist at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is a busy man. Clint Luedtke says he gets new complaints every day from farmers and gardeners losing hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of food to the state's oversized deer herd. Luedtke says fences and chemicals can help but more hunting is the long-term solution.

DNR planning roadside checks in 2012

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is going to start conducting random roadside checks in 2012. Conservation officers will inspect trailers, boats and other vehicles to help stop the spread of zebra mussels and other aquatic invasive species. More decontamination units and watercraft inspectors will also be deployed at infested lakes and rivers around the state.

DNR warns of consequences if state doesn't approve higher hunting, fishing fees

The agency says it will have to make cuts that outdoors enthusiasts will surely notice. Among those cuts could be upkeep to hunting paths, fish surveys and deer habitat.
