Donations pour in for family of 2-year-old found dead near Edina park
Donations are pouring in to support the family of a 2-year-old girl who died after going missing from an Edina park this week.
A Go Fund Me for Iklas Abdullahi Ahmed has raised more than $56,000 in less than 19 hours. The funds will go toward funeral costs, as well as "anything that'll help the family while they grieve the unexpected loss of the beautiful [daughter]," the page says.
Ahmed was with her family at Rosland Park in Edina, just off Valley View Road, around 5 p.m. Monday, when she went missing. More than 150 law enforcement personnel helped search for the toddler, with some working through the night.
Around 1 p.m. Tuesday, members of the Hennepin County Water Rescue team located her body in water next to the park.
The girls' mother, filled with immense pain over the loss, "collapsed as they walked her over to the pond to identify the body," the fundraiser continues.
It describes Ahmed as "filled with so much light and energy."
Friends and family held a vigil for Ahmed Tuesday evening at the park where she went missing.
