St. Paul police are looking for possible witnesses to a Friday night shooting that left one person dead and another with life-threatening injuries.

It happened shortly before 7 p.m. at an apartment building on the 1200 block of Westminster Street, which is located in the city's Payne-Phalen neighborhood.

According to a news release from the police department, officers were called to the scene and found an  unresponsive man "gravely wounded by an apparent gunshot wound."

Despite lifesaving measures, paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

A short time later, the release says, officers learned that a second victim showed up at Regions Hospital with an apparent gunshot wound. As of Friday night, he was in surgery with "life-threatening injuries."

No arrests have been made yet. Few other details about the case have been released, but "investigators do not think this was a random act."

Anyone with information about the crime is urged to call 651-266-5650.

This is St. Paul's 29th homicide so far this year.
