Air conditioner thefts on rise, but not because of rise in heat

The heat apparently has little to do with the increase in air conditioner thefts in the metro area this spring. WCCO-TV reports that AC units are being looted for the copper and aluminum components contained within. Since Jan. 1, more than 100 units have been reported stolen, with more than 15 looted in May alone.

Gun incidents fast on the rise in St. Paul

In the first five months of this year, gun incident reports were up 65 percent, compared with the average for the same period between 2008 and 2010, a Pioneer Press analysis found. Reports of shots fired and aggravated assaults involving guns over the winter months were double of what has been typical.
