Dr. Anthony Fauci to deliver keynote speech for Mayo Clinic on September 11

Fauci has been the face of America's fight against the coronavirus.

The nation's leading epidemiologist, Dr. Anthony Fauci, will be a keynote speaker at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences commencement this month.

Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden, will join Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science Professor, Dr. Franklyn Prendergast as keynote speakers at the Sept. 11 ceremony in Rochester.

The commencement will be conducted virtually due to the ongoing threat of the delta variant-fueled coronavirus, but it will be available to watch via livestream video

Fauci has been the face of the U.S. in the fight against the coronavirus, with his latest efforts designed at preventing people from taking the anti-parasitic drug ivermectin with hopes that it might prevent COVID-19 or ease disease symptoms.

“Don’t do it; there’s no evidence whatsoever that it works and it could potentially have toxicity… with people who have gone to poison control centers because they’ve taken the drug at a ridiculous dose and wind up getting sick,” Fauci said earlier this week. “There’s no clinical evidence that indicates that this works.”

Despite Fauci and other esteemed medical experts, including Dr. Gregory Poland of the Mayo Clinic, advising against taking ivermectin, some people are moving forward with the pill.

There have been at least nine cases in Minnesota where poison control was involved after an individual used the drug, with health officials urging people to take the FDA-approved, safer and more effective COVID-19 vaccine to reduce the chances of infection, hospitalization, and death from the virus.

Ivermectin is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat specific instances of parasitic worms in humans, as well as some skin conditions. There is also an animal-grade version used to prevent parasites.

It is not an anti-viral drug, the FDA says, and there is mixed evidence at best right now that it is effective in dampening COVID-19, though clinical trials continue.
