Drinks delivered to your door: MN liquor store chain partners with Drizly

No need to leave the house, another alcohol-delivery service is coming to the Twin Cities.

Minneapolis-based Haskell's Wine & Spirits is partnering with Boston-based Drizly to allow customers to place delivery orders via their smartphone or computer – and it'll get to their door within an hour, the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal reports.

This service officially launches Thursday, KSTP reports, and it will be available to those of legal-drinking age in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, Minnetonka, Edina, St. Louis Park, Wayzata, Richfield and Mendota Heights, Tech.MN says.

If the service is successful, Haskell's will expand its delivery area, Tech.MN notes.

It's simple and easy to use: All customers have to do is download the Dirzly app on their phone (or visit the website on a computer), log in, pick from Haskell's many offerings – the minimum order is $20 – and validate their ID.

Then, voila! A Haskell's employee will deliver it to your door for a $5 delivery charge, Red Current notes. However, Drizly is offering free delivery on all orders through May 23 with the promo code TWINCITIES, Tech.MN says.

A booze-to-your-door service isn't a new concept for Haskell's – it's been delivering alcoholic goodies to customers since it was founded in 1934, but the liquor store chain told the Business Journal the Drizly app will help them connect with younger customers.

The Business Journal also says this service will give the chain a step up on the competition as Maryland-based Total Wine makes its push into the Twin Cities market. The big box retailer doesn't offer delivery in Minnesota.

This isn't the only drink-delivery app in the Twin Cities. Last fall, DrinkFly launched in the area, with a handful of independent liquor stores signing on to the service. Like Drizly, DrinkFly promises delivery within an hour.
